Development and Fundraising

Responsibilities

The Director of Development will join the Denver Institute team in fulfilling the organization’s mission by contributing to the strategic future of DIFW, identifying and stewarding prospective major donors and foundations, planning and evaluating fundraising activities, and managing DIFW’s fundraising systems. To succeed, the candidate must be internally-motivated, highly organized, relationally warm, passionate about the DIFW mission, and committed to developing long-term relationships in the Denver area and beyond with donors and team members.

Responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to:

-Major Gift Development (75%)

-Identify and cultivate relationships with relationships with prospective major donors and planned giving donors

-Lead the major gift development process from prospect research to cultivation to stewardship, including meeting with, calling, praying for, and thanking donors

-Plan and manage a major gift portfolio of 50-70 donors

-Help to plan and lead campaigns for specific projects, in partnership with the Executive Director and board of trustees

-Assist board members with the fundraising process, including identifying new prospects and thanking major donors

-Write grant proposals for foundation prospects, along with the development team

-Travel to meet face-to-face with major donors and major donor prospects

-Exceed fundraising goals set by the CEO and board of trustees


Leadership (15%)

-In partnership with the CEO, create a comprehensive fundraising plan for all fundraising activities and influence future strategic initiatives for Denver Institute as a whole

-Work with the communications team to develop a membership program, in partnership with the CEO, that grows our base of recurring business and individual donors

-Manage the Development Coordinator, especially in reporting in Salesforce, researching foundations, improving all fundraising processes, thanking donors, reporting on fundraising metrics, and hosting events

-Manage any development interns in areas such as events, donor appreciation, and annual giving

-Participate in directors meetings and provide overall leadership for our fundraising strategy and implementation

-Lead the professional development process in generosity for DIFW staff

-Help shape and be a model for a theological lens for fundraising in the broader fundraising industry


Annual Giving & Events (10%)

-Lead the annual giving planning and execution process in partnership with the Communications Director and the DIFW Team

-Assist the communications team with finding and highlighting stories of impact for quarterly donor newsletters and our annual report

-Develop and evaluate strategies for retaining and acquiring new annual givers

-Work collaboratively with the CEO and Development Coordinator on small and large events, including donor briefings, a major donor weekend, Leadership Partners lunches, and future events between senior executives and fellowship alumni

-Other tasks as assigned by the CEO

Reporting

The Director of Development will report directly to the CEO and will work regularly with other directors and the fundraising team. The Director of Development will supervise the Development Coordinator.
