Asociate Executive Director

Gateway Pregnancy Center
Posted: 02/21/2023
Salary/Range: $75,000
Location
Elizabeth, New Jersey
Description:

Ministry background: Gateway Pregnancy Center is a 37-year old crisis pregnancy ministry whose primary goal is to share the gospel with men and women in a pregnancy crisis. All services are free. Our mission field is primarily in the Hispanic communities surrounding Elizabeth, NJ as well as the African-American, Haitian and Caribbean communities in and near Newark, NJ.

Unlike 90% of pregnancy centers in the US, Gateway’s primary focus is the gospel, not prolife activism. The gospel is our focus and the vehicle is the crisis pregnancy ministry.

The assistant would work alongside our Executive Director, an ordained minister (1993) who had led the ministry since 1986. This younger, gospel passionate man would also speak regularly in local churches in central New Jersey.

Although the Assistant Executive Director (AED) has the numerous responsibilities of a para-church pregnancy ministry, the unique focus is on church relations, securing Biblically literate peer counselors and training the staff in evangelism.

The author of our unique training manual Focus on the Heart, is a Westminster graduate, Rev. James Dundas. Rev. Dundas also is a graduate of Northeastern Bible College, as is our current executive Director. All aspects of the ministry are to be guided by an understanding of Scripture, unlike most pro-life crisis centers throughout the US. This was the intent in 1975 of the founders of the pro-life pregnancy center movement, in large measure, Rev. Curtis J. Young. After leading the Christian Action Council for a number of years, Rev Young was the Senior Pastor of Presbyterian Church of the Atonement in Silver Spring, Maryland for twenty-five years.

Gateway has seen over 38,000 women and thousands of men. A key component of our peer counseling is spiritual follow up. The Assistant Executive Director {AED}would continue Gateway’s focus on sharing the biblical view of the sanctity of human life to the women served (coming from 47 different nations) as well as to the churches (some dozen or more) who support the ministry. Our desire is to see this individual become the Executive Director within one-year of ministry.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Strong calling to Biblical ministry. Gifted in preaching and teaching. Administration gift is also needed. The Assistant Executive Directo (AED) would transition to becoming the Executive Director within one-year. He would direct the ministry, preach, teach and train volunteer and paid staff and represent this four-decade old gospel ministry to the community.

SKILLS: Strong preaching and evangelism calling. The actually day-to-day ‘vehicle’ of crisis pregnancy ministry can be learned within a few months. The key is the calling to ‘take the baton’ to the next generation. The focus, unlike 90% of crisis pregnancy centers in the US is the gospel presentation.
