 Commitment to Team Speech and Debate Competitions

  • Be a coach on-site at Speech and Debate tournaments during the competition season. Valor’s team typically competes in 14-18 tournaments annually
  • Coordinate with the head coach to determine dates in which coaching responsibilities at tournaments will be fulfilled by the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach, or jointly
  • Travel with the team to out of state tournaments
  • Judge debates and speeches at tournaments
  • Partner with the Head coach, volunteer judges, and parents to create a successful team culture
  • Guide students to a fuller understanding of the discipline by providing them with thoughtful feedback after rounds at tournaments, critiquing their cases, and fostering mentoring relationships
  • Demonstrate a love for Speech and Debate students and personally invest in their holistic growth within the broader context of the Valor community

RESULTS

  • Every student has an exceptional experience being involved in Valor Speech & Debate
  • Every student grows in his or her faith because of participating in Valor Speech & Debate and has a mentoring connection with an adult in the Valor Speech & Debate program
  • The Valor Speech and Debate team is highly successful (competitive excellence) and serves as a marquee attraction for students
  • The Valor Speech and Debate program will flourish and provide unique opportunities to students beyond the classroom
  • Under the leadership of the coach, the program will successfully compete at the state and national levels

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Preferred expertise and passion for Speech and Debate including competitor experience at the high school and/or college level
  • Expertise with Public Forum, Lincoln-Douglas, extemporaneous speaking, and original oratory is preferred
  • Solid biblical and theological foundation and understanding
  • High School teaching experience preferred

POSITION TYPE: Stipend 


HOURS PER WEEK: Temporary, part-time, exempt and does not include benefits, including Sick/Personal leave
