ASSOCIATE PASTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

The Associate Pastor is the primary support person for the Senior Pastor. As such he must have a passion for the Word of God and for people. He is missions-minded and will lead the congregation to serve both locally and globally. The Associate Pastor is one who casts a vision for the ministries under his direction. He lives out the Great Commission by sharing the gospel boldly from the pulpit, by being in the community, and through one-on-one relationships.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Support the Senior Pastor in the overall vision and leadership of the church’s education and weekend service planning, design and execution. Develop goals and objectives for the ministry in line with the strategic plan. Including…
    1. Providing feedback and improvement ideas prior to Sunday morning.
    2. Assist in the creation of creative elements for Sunday morning production (original video ideas, movie and television clips, drama possibilities, testimonials, etc.)
    3. Serve as a primary person on stage.
    4. Communicate with and handle any outside speakers, including securing manuscripts, coordinating travel arrangements, requesting honorarium payments, etc.
    5. Function as second/back up speaker to the Senior Pastor.
    6. Maintain clear channels of communication with the Pastor
  2. Supervise and assist the outreach, missions, family, youth and children’s ministries, as well as the audio/visual team. Ministry oversight can change due to gifts and personalities. Often one group (currently youth) will need more bandwidth than another.
  3. Shepherd birth through young marrieds.
    1. Visit members when appropriate.
    2. Conduct funerals and weddings
    3. Provide confidential pastoral counseling when needed.
  4. Staff help
    1. Assist the staff in the management of social media outlets and overall web presence.
    2. Perform other duties as assigned.

Work schedule

The associate Pastor position requires a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends, but that means there can be comp time during the week. There will be core hours when he is expected to be in the office and/or available to others. This will be a sufficient amount of time for accessibility to members of the congregation and for regular communication with church staff.

Job Skills and Requirements

This position requires a minimum of 2 years of full time or part time experience as a staff member in a ministry leadership capacity. Possession of at least a Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Biblical studies or related field is required. The successful individual will be a self-starter, not requiring a great deal of supervision, with a solid work ethic and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office as well as the ability to research and use a multitude of information gathering resources is a must. A knowledge of Proclaim would be helpful. Possesses personality, temperament, and interpersonal skills to relate and serve effectively within a multi-generational congregation setting. Exhibit evidence of Christian character and servant leadership as stated in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-4 in a work environment as well as in home/family settings. Demonstrate knowledge and ability to guide a seeker to become a baptized disciple of Jesus. Give evidence of a spiritually balanced life (prayer, Bible study, rest, worship, financial stewardship).
