Cross Country Coach (9th-12th)

General Position Description

The Cross Country coach is responsible for coordinating, planning and attending the team practices and managing the team while at 3 meets during the fall 2022 season. The coach should be confident and experienced in running 5k races and have knowledge and skills to train the team during practices.  The coach is responsible for cultivating an environment where student athletes are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed in their sport. The coach must be skilled in communicating with both student athletes and parents/guardians during the season. The applicant must be 18 years of age or older.

This Position Reports to the Athletic Director.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Plan and implement practices thoughtfully for the age group and skill levels of the student athletes.
  2. Must consider different routes, distances, speed work, and strength training throughout the season.
  3. Observe and assess individual needs of the student athletes as they progress through the season and prepare for competition at meets.
  4. Maintain frequent communications with parents regarding practice location, dates and times, any changes to the location/times of practices, expectations for practices and meets, along with communicating any cancellations due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances that would lead to the abrupt cancellation of practice
  5. Ensure all athletes are registered for participation in meets through MileSplit USA 
  6. Supervise student athletes during practices and while attending meets
    activities, hygiene and safety standards.
  7. Maintain accurate forms and information necessary for day of meets
  8. Frequent communication with the Athletic Director regarding any needs or changes that occur during the season.  

Additional Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills Required

  • ●  A love for running and a desire to help develop student athletes appreciation of cross country as a sport
  • ●  High energy and takes initiative when planning engaging practices
  • ●  Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • ●  Must clear full background check 
  • ●  Complete an online health/safety course prior to the start of the fall 2022 season
  • Experience Requirements
  • ●  Must have attended cross country meets either as a participating athlete or as an assistant/head coach
  • Employment Type
    Seasonal – August 8th to October 8th.  Consistent with High School Cross Country seasons defined by CHSAA (Colorado High School Activities Association)
    Working Hours: (2) 1 hour practices a week, days and times negotiable; Possibility to add 1 hour workouts on Friday mornings during the season; attend 3 team meets during the 2022 season
