Elevate USA is a transformational nonprofit that equips the future generation of urban leaders. Originally founded as Colorado Uplift, it has expanded beyond Denver through the Model Replication Program and now includes affiliate programs in 13 additional cities nationwide.

Too many urban youth lack the positive guidance and mentorship that is essential for success. Elevate aims to fill that gap with full-time teacher/mentors, year-round programming, cross-age mentoring, and an overall long-term relationship approach. For over 30 years, this model has delivered results from developmental assets and character building, to school success and community engagement.
As we expand our programming and deepen our impact, we are looking for the right individual to join our team.
We are looking for a dynamic and committed Director of Development to catalyze our fundraising efforts with operational excellence. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all of Elevate’s fundraising including the major gifts program, annual fund, planned giving, special events, and capital campaigns.
The Director of Development will work closely with the CEO as well as the Board of Directors to strategically and ambitiously create and execute on all fundraising plans. Ideal candidates will be self-motivated and deeply committed to the mission and vision of Elevate.
Consistently meet with prospective donors and supporters to establish effective communication and relationships.
Grow a major gifts program including identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major donors.
Oversee grant seeking including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements.
Build the planned giving program with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest expectancies.
Direct the annual fund program, including mailings and annual fundraising drives.
Direct all capital campaigns and other major fundraising drives.
Coordinate fundraising special events and direct employee fundraising drives.
Oversee prospect research.
Work closely with the CEO and Board of Directors to align vision and actions.
Make public appearances/accept speaking engagements to share information about Elevate with the larger community.
Attend and contribute to team meetings and company initiatives.
Oversee fundraising database and tracking systems.
Supervise and collaborate with other fundraising staff.
Oversee the creation of publications to support fundraising activities.
Maintain gift recognition programs.
Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, finance or other related fields.
5 years minimum experience in professional fundraising.
Strong interpersonal and writing skills.
Have knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising.
Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members and other volunteers.
Have the desire to get out of the office and build external relationships.
Be a goal-driven, “self-starter” who initiates donor visits and fundraising calls.
Be organized and exhibit follow-through on tasks and goals.
Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense, and good listening ability.
