As such, our vision for family ministry is to create a thriving ministry for children, youth and parents. This includes:

  • Children: We want children to experience the love of Christ and come to see God’s story as their story.
  • Youth: We want youth to adopt faith as their own, experience fellowship among their peers, and begin to truly live for Jesus out of their own accord.
  • Parents: We want parents to have opportunities for spiritual formation and be equipped to model and share their faith with their children.
  • Outreach: We want to engage families outside of the existing church members to help them and their children experience the love of Christ.General Purpose

    Monument Presbyterian Church (MPC) seeks a Director of Family Ministry (DFM) to build a vibrant and energetic ministry as a central element of the life of the congregation. Reflecting the vision, mission, and values of the congregation, the DFM will create, direct, and support ministries that nurture current children, youth and families as well reach out and attract new families and youth. As a key member of the church’s staff, the DFM will have a deep Christian faith and a passion for sharing the good news with children, youth, and families.

Responsibilities

The DFM will have four primary areas of ministry: children, youth, families, and family outreach.

Children’s Ministry

  • Oversee and lead the children’s Sunday School ministry
  • Develop (and/or select) and implement children’s curriculum for Sunday School
  • Recruit and train adult volunteers to help teach and oversee children’s ministry program
  • Deliver a weekly children’s sermon during the Sunday worship service
  • Plan and execute a yearly Vacation Bible School
  • Provide opportunities outside of Sunday School for children to engage in the life of thechurch

    Youth Ministry

  • Develop a regular youth ministry program for junior and senior high students that engages students in faith, community, and outreach
  • Connect with students outside of church and develop relationships
  • Recruit volunteers as needed
  • Plan and execute a yearly camp or mission trip for students
  • Help integrate students into the larger body of the church through opportunities such as(but not limited to) worship leadership, volunteer opportunities, mentorships, etc.
  • As the need arises, lead a confirmation class for students to become members of MPCFamily Ministry
  • In collaboration with head pastors and other staff, create opportunities for parents of the church to fellowship with one another and grow in faith
  • Through multiple channels (email, text, phone, social media), regularly communicate with parents about opportunities for their children
  • Support parents as they raise their children in faithFamily Outreach
  • Proactively develop opportunities/ events to interface with and invite families outside of the existing church body’
  • Engage regularly with Joyful Journey Preschool – MPC’s on-campus preschool – and develop relationships with parents and children
  • Participate in Good News Club – an afterschool program at Wingate Elementary – with the intention of engaging non-church going families and studentsEssential Attributes

MPC’s Director of Family Ministry will:

  • Have a deep and ever-developing faith in Jesus Christ
  • Relate well to and love children and youth
  • Want to see children and youth come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior
  • Have a passion to build a children’s and youth ministry – almost from the ground up!This is a big task but allows the individual to create something unique
  • Be a self-starter and entrepreneurial. While we are a growing church, there is a lot ofwork to be done and this position will require trying new ideas to see what works and

    what doesn’t. It will require a sense of drive to try new things

  • Have a passion to see the church grow – both spiritually and numerically
  • Collaborate and work well with the church staff and volunteers
  • Be an active participant in the larger body of the churchDesired Attributes

    The following attributes are a benefit but not required for employment:

  • A Bachelor’s degree – especially in Family Ministry, Youth Ministry, Child Development,or a related field
  • Ideally possesses training and/ or working experience in Children’s and Family Ministryor Youth Ministry

    MPC staff maintain a 32-hour work week – Mon-Thurs from 9:00am-3:30pm and Sunday mornings. The DFM will likely need to work occasional nights or weekends as program ministry demands but it is expected they would work with their supervisor to find hours that fit within the 32-hour timeframe. This is considered full-time – allowing flexibility and a healthy work-life balance given the demands of ministry.
