Open Door Ministries exists to provide practical help and hope to people in urban Denver who are homeless or low income. Our primary objective is to move people toward self-sufficiency by helping change the circumstances and life patterns that have held them captive to poverty and addictions. Title of Position Event and Volunteer Coordinator

 

Supervisor:  Executive Director

Hours: Full Time (generally 20 hrs/week for Events & 20 hrs/week for Volunteers)

Compensation: Hourly with option to raise support

Required Meeting Attendance:

  • Church Attendance: Attend Open Door Fellowship or Westside Church for first 6 months
  • ODM staff meetings (one meeting and one training/month)
  • Development staff meetings

 

 

Job Purpose

 

The primary responsibilities of this position are planning, promoting, and coordinating Open Door Ministries fundraising events alongside the Development Team.

 

The purpose of the Volunteer Coordinator role is to recruit, engage, and utilize volunteers across ODM’s 18 programs.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Event Coordinator

  • Plan, promote, and implement fundraising events alongside the Development Team, including 5K Run, Embracing Our City Banquet, Golf Tournament, Women’s Brunch and other events
  • Create volunteer teams to help promote and coordinate each event
  • Work with various event venues and oversee budgeting, pricing, food, program, etc.
  • Along with the volunteer teams, promote events by word of mouth, social media, mailings, email blasts, etc.
  • Implement new event ideas as they arise
  • Recruit corporate and other event sponsors and solicit donations alongside Development Team and volunteer teams
  • Direct all “day of event” details with volunteer teams
  • Assist Communications Director with communications as needed
  • Other related fundraising tasks including making phone calls and having personal fundraising meetings as appropriate
  • Solicit donations throughout the year alongside Development Team and volunteer teams including end of year calls to donors

Volunteer Coordinator

  • Coordinate volunteers
  • Update website with volunteer and donation opportunities
  • Screening, interviewing, correspondence, tours, scheduling, orientations
  • Direct volunteers to appropriate ministries and schedule them with various ministry directors
  • Manage volunteer paperwork
  • Manage and/or lead volunteer groups including some weekends (on average 1 weekend a month)
  • Recruit and coordinate volunteers for major events
  • Represent ODM at ministry fairs from time to time
  • Coordinate donations to the ministry such as furniture and appliances
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Previous experience in event planning or nonprofit fundraising preferred
  • Must be a great networker
  • Creative, organized, and detail-oriented
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable on various internet platforms
  • Desire to serve in an urban ministry context

Work Environment and Physical Demands

 

  • This job involves sitting, standing, and walking
  • Must be able to move event supplies weighing up to 25 pounds
