The Role: Executive Pastor

Central Christian Church is healthy with an incredible church culture and staff. The leadership of the Church is strong and in transition with great opportunity for growth. There is a true sense of community with the staff, as well as volunteers, throughout the church. The leaders of Central Christian Church are strong and excited for continued growth.
About the Executive Pastor:
Central’s Mission Statement is “Transforming families to live and love like Jesus.” The Executive Pastor plays a crucial role in implementing the vision and fostering the values of the church by leading and caring for the staff. Central is a church of around 1,000 people with a total of 20+ employees. It is the job of the Executive Pastor to mobilize and equip the staff and volunteers to carry out the mission of Central by overseeing the day-to-day operations and operating budget (which is currently at $2.5 million). The Executive Pastor will work alongside the Senior Pastor and Elder Board to build unity through encouragement, evaluation, leadership, and ministry development.
The Executive Pastor Will:
Achieve collaboration and stated goals with the staff by working together in partnership with lay leaders.
Get to know and build relationships with staff and leaders.
Ensure that new and current staff members are fully trained and engaged in their appointed ministries.
Assist the church with planting additional churches in the region.
Ensure that the staff will be living out Central Christian’s values in their work and in their daily lives.
Make sure the organization is operating at peak efficiency and effectiveness so that the Senior Pastor will be freed up to operate in his primary gifting and calling.
What You Bring:
Education & Experience
Possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a college or seminary.
Have a proven track record and 10 + years of leading staff well in a large church setting.
Have a growing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Must be confident and comfortable leading from the “second chair”.
Relational shepherd’s heart and business brain, able to recognize God-given gifts in others.
Must be a strong peacemaker.
Possess strong skills for leading with strategic intent – planning, execution, organization, problem-solving, team development, and staff coaching
Have the ability to preach and teach in a relevant and engaging way a few times a year.
What it’s Like to Live in Lancaster, California:
Lancaster, California is located approximately 60-70 miles north of Los Angeles. It is the 33rd largest city in California with an estimated population of 156,000 and has been described as “a big small town.” The Lancaster/Palmdale area is known as The Antelope Valley and has a total population of about 475,000 and is considered “high desert.” The elevation of Lancaster is 2,350 feet above sea level.
Lancaster is one of the premier aviation and aeronautical research and development areas of the U.S. With Edwards Air Force Base nearby and companies like Boeing, Lockheed, and Northrop Grumman in the community, many people in the aerospace industry live or have lived in the area. NASA has many employees in the Lancaster area, and some of the astronauts in the American space program have lived in the community.
Every spring, Lancaster hosts the California Poppy Festival that draws 60,000 people. Famous former residents of Lancaster include John Wayne, Judy Garland, and Frank Zappa. The local minor league baseball team, the Lancaster JetHawks, is an affiliate of the Houston Astros.
The schools in Lancaster include public elementary, Junior High and High Schools, as well as a number of private schools from which to choose that offer K-12 education. Antelope Valley College is a two-year community college in Lancaster. The people in Lancaster are young, and the average age is about 32, with the national average being around 38.
With a slightly higher than average family income and lower than average California house prices, many families move to Lancaster because of its affordability. The area is close to beautiful California beaches and incredible hiking and is surrounded by beautiful landscape. Lancaster offers the clear high desert air and a smaller environment while still being only an hour away from metropolitan Los Angeles and all that a large city has to offer.
