Job Summary

The Foundation & Major Gift Officer will focus on cultivating new and existing grant-based donors.  She/he will report to the Director of Foundation Relations and work closely with the rest of the development team.  He/she will be involved in the entire moves management process with grant-based donors, including research, identification, cultivation and relationship growth.

 Reporting Relationships

  • Reports to the Director of Foundation Relations
  • Works closely with the Director of Development and other team members

Duties and Responsibilities:

General

  • Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Maintain a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of DAI and faithfully uphold DAI’s ministry in prayer
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of DAI’s history, values, vision, mission and programs and effectively communicate that information to others

Basic Duties

  • Donor Cultivation
    • Strategically research, meet and cultivate new grant-based and other major donors, often through their representatives, e.g. foundation staff
  • Donor Relationships
    • Build relationships with current and potential donors to understand their generosity calling and enable them to become even more engaged with DAI as appropriate
  • Grant Writing and Administration
    • Work with the development staff and CEO to write grant proposals which are tailored to the specific funding priorities of different donors
    • Track grant submission guidelines for each donor and ensure compliance
    • Ensure grant reporting and donor follow-up is accomplished
  • Development Team member
    • Attend team meetings & staff meetings
    • Assist other team members as needed
    • Provide input to the overall direction of the development effort
    • Be faithful in prayer for DAI and its donors

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Strong interpersonal skills; thrives on personal connections
  • Self-motivated and disciplined work habits, along with humility and willingness to learn
    • Problem solver and thinker
  • Reliable, with good practices of follow through
  • Have a can-do attitude of “see the need meet the need”
  • Computer skills/abilities
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel)
    • Experience with CRM software and other foundation search programs a plus
  • Willingness to travel internationally and domestically (up to 25% of the time)
  • Five years of experience in sales or major gift development preferred, with grant writing experience a plus

Working Conditions

  • DAI follows public health guidelines for COVID-19 prevention/mitigation
  • Position is full-time requiring 40 hours per week
  • Location is negotiable
  • Salary range is $70K to $90K base salary plus benefits, depending upon experience
