Kids Ministry Coordinator | Job Description

As a part of The Local Church team the Kid’s Director will be responsible to pursue excellence in the ministry to the children and families of The Local Church. The TLC Kid’s Director will ensure that the programs offered are safe, engaging, and high quality, and that the children at their congregation are hearing the truth of God, experiencing the love of Christ, and having fun at church. 

Hours: 15-20 a week

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Reports to: Lead Pastor for performance, development, and oversight.

Roles and Responsibilities: 

  • Lead TLC Kid’s ministry in alignment with the vision, mission, and values of The Local Church
  • Prioritize gospel development and understanding in the hearts and minds of TLC kids
  • Recruit, train, develop, and lead volunteers for kid’s ministry programming
  • Ensure the faithful execution of curriculum, policies, and volunteer screening in accordance with church safety policies; continually assess and update safety procedures as needed
  • Participate in the shepherding and care for Kid’s ministry volunteers
  • Format Grow curriculum and prep classrooms for Sunday ministry
  • Facilitate regular and effective communication with parents about programs, teaching resources, and general promotion of the Kid’s ministry to the congregation
  • Continually assess and report on ministry effectiveness, make improvements as needed
  • Lead parents through childhood milestones such as Parent/Child dedications, baptisms, and transitions out of the Kid’s ministry
  • Attend all required congregation-wide events and activities, including staff meetings, prayer meetings, special events, retreats, and staff development days
  • Assist in the planning and development of summer camp programming and events throughout the year
  • Required to work most Sunday’s of the year including major holiday weekends that the church is meeting (e.g. Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Easter, Memorial Day, etc.) 

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to recruit, vet, train, and manage volunteer teams
  • Ability to steward people, financial, and material resources toward ministry goals
  • Demonstrated ability to disciple others into mature followers of Jesus
  • Strong ability to engage and interact with children, including teaching Bible lessons in a large group or small group setting
  • Ability to use or learn current curriculum and technology 
  • Ability to learn, improve, and enforce the child safety policies
  • Analytical skills to evaluate and identify potential improvements to ministry strategies
  • Team player, with experience cultivating relationships, and building collaborative and diverse teams
  • Ability to lift and transport supplies (up to 30 lbs) between business locations
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or in progress) in early childhood education or related field
  • Experience leading volunteer teams
  • Demonstrated management of a moderate to large budget
  • Previous experience shepherding children in the gospel
  • Previous experience in a position responsible for managing safety and identifying potential threats
  • Experience maintaining excellence through change
