Description

The Homeschool Enrichment Program of Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County seeks a part-time Literature teacher for its growing program in Lone Tree, Colorado, in the south Denver metro area. The Homeschool Enrichment Program is a tuition-free enrichment day offered to home-educated students. Click here to read more about the distinctives of this program.

The Literature Teacher will engage students with material and curriculum based in the liberal arts and the classical tradition, and will work to create an atmosphere of excellence paired with engagement and joyful learning. The teacher will teach four sections of literature to students in 1st through 8th grade and will use great works of literature to create meaningful classroom discussions through Socratic questioning and engagement with the text.

Desired Start Date:  First week of January, 2023

Compensation Range and Schedule: $14,000-$15,000 annually. Teaching occurs in-person on Fridays from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. Additional work time is needed for before- and after-school preparation, resulting in a work week that is approximately 14 hours per week. Teachers work approximately 40 weeks per year, from mid-August to mid-June.

Schedule and Classification: Part-Time Exempt

Requirements

Qualified candidates will have a strong background in the subject area and demonstrate high moral character. They will have previous classroom experience working with elementary age students. They will demonstrate enthusiasm and knowledge of classical education, and expertise in the subject matter. They will desire to partner with parents and to mentor home-educated students in the pursuit of their own flourishing. Candidates should desire to work in a collaborative environment. They should be professional, well-organized, and rigorous in their own intellectual and moral development.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • After offer is accepted, satisfactory background check as required by state law and Colorado Department of Education
  • Conviction in the values of a rigorous liberal arts education
  • Loyalty to the school, classical education, and the mission and vision of Ascent Classical Academies
  • Commitment to model moral character in line with the school’s core virtues and the pursuit of the Good, True, and Beautiful
  • Adherence to all ACA policies, including but not limited to the Employee Handbook, Family Handbook, and all applicable school and board policies
