Position Title: Residential Advisor

Exemption Status: Hourly Non-Exempt

Reports To: Residential Manager

Pay Range: $15.35/hour – $20.00/hour

Position Summary: Residential Advisors (RAs) work as unified team with other Residential Advisors, the Residential Manager, Residential Property Manager, and the Hope House Colorado Program staff to provide encouragement and support for up to 8 young mothers and their children living in the Hope House group residence, with the focus of building relationship while helping residents to become self-sufficient.

 

Residential Advisors work daytime, evening, weekend, and overnight shifts to ensure residents have a HHC staff member with them at the residence 24 hours/day, every day. The residence is used in a variety of ways, including providing respite housing, short-term housing, and a structured long-term housing program for teen mothers.

 

Due to the multiple purposes for the residence, examples of some of the duties of a Residential Advisor may include (but are not limited to) caring for a young mom’s children while the mom recovers from an illness or temporary crisis, helping residents with everyday life skills such as learning to drive or budgeting, and/or supporting a resident by assisting with their homework, cooking a meal, or coming alongside a mom in parenting routines. RAs ensure a safe environment through enforcing boundaries, create a learning environment through gentle guidance and participatory teaching, and provide an opportunity for relational and spiritual growth by being available, engaged, and authentic.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead IGP review meetings with residents every 6 weeks
  • Collect, input, and report all relevant teen mom data in designated HHC software platforms
  • Develop and maintain relationships with county human services caseworkers; remain current on human services rules and regulations
  • Assist residents in maintaining  Human Service Benefits once established
  • Educate teen moms about housing options (rent readiness, nonprofit partners, housing vouchers, etc.) and assist teen moms with obtaining and maintaining stable housing
  • Assist residents with obtaining and maintaining reliable transportation, from accessing bus tickets & passes to assistance with obtaining a driver’s license
  • Come alongside residents in their parenting routines (developed by our Parent Educator). Might include assisting with bedtime routines, discipline routines, or assigned parenting activities
  • Ensure a safe environment by  enforcing boundaries outlined in the Residence Handbook, enforcing the house schedule, and assisting residents in navigating conflict
  • Ensure a secure environment by following security procedures, supervising visitors, and communicating security concerns in a timely manner
  • Support the Guiding Principle of Excellent Environment by providing a warm welcome to new moms at the residence, keeping common areas of the house clean, assisting with household laundry, assisting with cleaning and readying rooms for new      residents
  • Occasionally support residents with childcare for short periods of time, allowing them time for respite
  • Provide transportation to and from appointments or activities as assigned (in a Hope House vehicle)
  • Create opportunities for engagement with the girls: cook together, do craft projects, take walks, go on field trips, attend activities at the Resource Center (on the same campus as the Residence), be creative!
  • Eat meals with the girls and create opportunities to engage with the girls through cooking, baking, asking open-ended questions during meals, etc.
  • Create opportunities for spiritual growth by being available to listen and discuss faith questions, hosting devotions, attending church or Bible study with residents, etc.
  • Supervise, support, and appreciate volunteers assisting at the Residence
  • Communicate with one another and the Residential Manager through check-ins between shifts, written logs, and meeting attendance

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with HHC staff and perform job duties to advance the organization’s mission and vision.

  • Potentially assist with knowledge transfer to support HHC expansion goals.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, and walk as well as bend, squat, and climb stairs. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Benefits: HHC benefits are available to employees who consistently work a minimum of 24 hours a week, therefore this position is eligible for benefits. Benefits offered are subject to change at HHC’s sole discretion.

  • Simple IRA: Employees may choose to make salary reduction contributions through HHC’s Simple IRA plan and HHC will match the employee’s contribution up to a maximum of 3% of the employee’s annual salary.

Paid Time Off:

  • Vacation: Upon hire, employees earn 1 hour of vacation per 15.33 hours worked up to 120 hours (3 weeks) in a year. Accruals are adjusted to increase vacation earned per hours worked based on length of employment with HHC.
  • Holidays: HHC observes eleven (11) holidays throughout the year. Hourly employees who work on actual holidays will be paid time and one-half.
  • Sick Leave: HHC provides eligible employees with Paid Sick and Safe Leave (PSSL) and Public Health Emergency Leave (PHEL) in accordance with the requirements of Colorado’s Healthy Families and Workplaces Act (HFWA).

Requirements

  • Must be female and over the age of 21
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance.
  • Must pass a criminal background check, driving record check, and drug screen
  • Must be committed to Hope House Colorado’s Guiding Principles and continually working towards the HHC mission
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to the Hope House Relational Covenant

Desired Skills and Attributes:

  • Excellent written, verbal, and in-person communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Experience working with an at-risk population, adolescent girls, or teen moms is a plus

Education or Training:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
