GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB FUNCTION:

Provides invaluable leadership alongside the Director of Financial Aid for all programs. Responsible for assisting the Director of Financial Aid (DFA) with daily functions for the purpose of supporting institutional recruitment and retention efforts.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assist prospective and current students with the financial aid process, including the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and scholarship application
  2. Main point of contact for all student questions, concerns via in person, phone and email. Lead on all the development and execution of financial aid advising sessions.
  3. Develop, define and maintain the Financial Aid Office’s Policies and Procedures Manual for the department in direct compliance with federal regulations.
  4. Annually designs, reviews and oversees the student outreach for Financial Aid, such as Financial Awareness and Literacy, Constitution Day, FAFSA completion, FA trainings off-site, etc.
  5. Leads communication for the department of financial aid. Develops new communication strategies, implements and tracks the effectiveness of all methods of communication. Ensure all communication (email, phone, etc.) are up-to-date and schedules are in place for communication to students
  6. Oversee the Seminary’s financial literacy program, which provides students with on-campus educational seminars and updated financial-management tools. Develops and oversees student debt management efforts. Leads in person counseling sessions for students with review of financial aid options (scholarships and loans), details on aid, budget recommendations and future loan repayment options.
  7. Maintain contact with student borrowers delinquent in loan payments. Monitors School’s default rate.  Maintains contact with federal loan servicers to help manage default rates and loan repayment efforts.
  8. Assist the Director with Title IV awarding, verification, and clearing of ISIR issues.
  9. School Certifying Official for Denver Seminary. Assists with the certification of Veterans Benefits for qualifying students.
  10. Supervises the financial aid office work study employee. Develops and updates, as needed, the financial aid work study position. Organizes the hiring and interview process.
  11. The Senior Financial Aid Advisor assists with the yearly audits for Federal and Veteran Benefit funding. This includes the collection, organization and review of data. Also assistance with the implementation of any changes that result from the audit.

 

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist other departments within Student Life and Enrollment Management (SLEM) as needed
  • Stay up to date on training by attending webinar’s, off site training, etc.
  • Communicate with vendors associated with financial aid programs
  • Assists in the data entry of scholarship entries per term, including ministry residency and outside church scholarships, as well as all incoming financial aid forms.
  • Maintain financial aid file system

 

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Prior experience in higher education financial aid required
  • A knowledge and general understanding of accounting and bookkeeping, with accurate math skills
  • Experience with customer service and ability to relate well to a diverse population
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form
  • Ability to give careful attention to detail
  • A commitment to discern and maintain confidentiality
  • Computer competency with familiarity and proficiency with Microsoft Office software
  • Familiarity with CampusVue SIS software preferred
  • Familiarity with the Federal Direct Loan Program, its technical processes and its systems (e.g. EDConnect, COD, NSLDS) preferred

OUTCOMES:

  • Effectively leads students through the full financial aid process, from the initial contact, to the FAFSA and scholarship application, to financial counseling and awareness, and to maintaining eligibility and future financial aid responsibilities.
  • A high overall student satisfaction rate with the Financial Aid Department and a consistent approach to improving student service and office efficiency.
  • Students who are communicated to timely in a professional and confidential manner either through phone, email or in person advising.
  • Meeting all deadlines with a high rate of accuracy. Consistently evaluating with the Director of Financial Aid the effectiveness of our outreach programs and how we can improve on a yearly basis.
  • Metrics of recruitment and retention will maintain or increase by leveraging institutional aid

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Normal office working conditions including computer usage may require occasional standing, walking, long periods of sitting, climb stairs, balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
