Bethel Baptist Church, a member of Converge, is located in the middle of the fast-growing state of Florida. We are on the “Suncoast” and the opportunities are endless. The church was established 60+ years ago, has 60,000+ square feet of facilities, and is debt free. Our current attendance is around 100,­ with new people attending weekly and a high percentage of those continuing to attend. Our facilities are used by several organizations, including a school and multiple clubs. We are open to whatever God leads us to do and are longing to touch our community, state, nation, and world for Jesus.

Job Overview

We are looking for a servant leader, highly relational, with a clear vision for local, regional and global ministry. He will need to have strong communication skills (both in the pulpit and inter-personally), a calling for developing new leaders, a passion for reaching people far from God, and the ability to motivate others to be a part of God’s redemptive cause. He will need to understand and work with our existing partnerships with Converge MidAmerica and Converge.

Leadership Skills

• Creativity to envision new possibilities for the ministry of Bethel Baptist Church.
• Ability to think strategically about opportunities and challenges.
• Ability to recruit, lead and manage church staff to fulfill the mission of the church.
• Skills to develop and recruit an effective ministry team with staff and lay leaders.
• Skills to realistically assess situations and take appropriate actions.
• Ability to shepherd and develop the Board of Deacons and team leaders. 

Communication Skills

• Strong practical biblical preaching for life transformation.
• Ability to cast and communicate a clear and compelling vision for Bethel Baptist Church.

Relationship Skills

• Commitment to the Great Commandment and the ministry of encouragement.
• Effective interpersonal communication skills both as a listener and a speaker.
• Ability to develop and employ the unique strengths of others.

 

Qualifications

Personal Qualities

• Meet the New Testament requirements for a pastor as listed in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9.
• Have a strong devotional and prayer life.
• Have an inherent grace orientation in his relationship to God and other people.

Professional Qualities

• Embrace and hold to the Affirmation of Faith of Bethel Baptist Church and Converge MidAmerica.
• Have a Bachelor’s degree in pastoral ministry from an accredited university.
• Have a minimum of three years of experience in a Senior Pastor role.
• Have experience in and/or a heart for reaching Florida with a congregation that fluctuates seasonally.
• Have experience as a Senior Pastor supervising multiple staff (associate pastor, youth pastor, secretary, etc.).
• Have experience as Senior Pastor working with a Deacon Board and multiple church teams.
