Overview of Open Door Ministries

Open Door Ministries exists to provide practical help and hope to people in urban Denver who are homeless or low income. Our primary objective is to move people toward self-sufficiency by helping change the circumstances and life patterns that have held them captive to poverty and addictions. Title of Position Westside Youth Director

 

Supervisor:  WCI Outreach Pastor

Hours: 40 hours/week

Compensation: Hourly through ODM with option to raise support

Job Purpose

The Westside Youth Director will lead the ministry to reach the youth on Denver’s Westside for Christ as well as to maintain and care for the Youth Group of the Church for Westside Church Internacional, a multi-ethnic, multi-generational church located on the Westside of Denver.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop a weekly youth program (Wednesday nights) for both middle and high school students, youth programming should include outreach as well as discipleship aspects.
  • Develop small groups for youth (currently meeting twice a month on Fridays)
  • Connect with local schools and organizations to reach out to the youth in the community.
  • Help create outreach events for middle and high school students.
  • Take kids to summer and winter youth camps.
  • Interact with parents.
  • Host middle and high school meetings at WCI and other locations as appropriate.
  • Develop & lead the team of adult volunteers either from inside or outside WCI.
  • Partner with an organization in west Denver that will support the volunteer training and DPS background checks.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Continue with the mentoring program between Youth Leaders and Youth.

Qualifications

  • A heart for middle and high school-aged kids
  • Understanding of how youth ministry integrates with WCI culture and philosophy
  • Demonstrated ability to connect with youth
  • Ability to recruit & direct volunteers.
  • Thorough understanding of the Bible and ability to evangelize, teach, and disciple students.
  • Theological and Biblical Degree preferred
  • 1 to 2 years of previous experience working in Youth Ministry preferred

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Work environment is both indoor and outdoor. Outdoor activities can be in extreme weather conditions such as rain, snow or high temperatures.
  • This job involves sitting, standing, walking, running, lifting, hiking and driving.
  • This job regularly involves moving up to 25 pounds
