Overview of Open Door Ministries

Open Door Ministries exists to provide practical help and hope to people in urban Denver who are homeless or low income. Our primary objective is to move people toward self-sufficiency by helping change the circumstances and life patterns that have held them captive to poverty and addictions. Title of Position WCI Youth/Outreach Assistant Director


Supervisor:  Karla Valencia and Michelle Cazas

Hours: Full Time; 40 hours/week (Split hours equally between Youth and Outreach)

Compensation: Hourly with option to raise additional support through ODM
Required Meeting Attendance:

  • WCI Church Services
  • WCI Staff Meetings
  • Regular meetings with supervisors
  • ODM Monthly Staff Meetings and Trainings; other meetings as scheduled
  • WCI Core Team Meetings

Job Purpose

The purpose of the WCI Youth/Outreach Assistant Director position is to assist in serving the West Denver community and to reach the youth on Denver’s Westside for Christ as an outreach of Westside Church Internacional, a multi-ethnic, multi-generational church located on the Westside of Denver.

Youth Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of a youth program for both middle and high school students
  • Help design and present bible studies and devotionals
  • Connect with local schools (Strive middle & high schools) and organizations to evaluate needs of the community
  • Help create regular outreach events for middle and high school students
  • Interact with parents
  • Host middle and high school meetings at WCI and other locations as appropriate
  • Participate in other WCI events as needed
  • Develop and lead the team of adult volunteers
  • Partner with YoungLife in West Denver

Outreach Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with Food Bank
  • Assist with Back to school
  • Assist with the Legal Aid Clinic
  • Assist with Children’s day outreach
  • Assist in all general community outreach
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

  • Understanding of how youth ministry integrates with WCI culture and philosophy
  • Demonstrated ability to connect with youth
  • Knowledge of the Bible
  • Ability to create and direct teams
  • A heart to serve in the community


  • Lead in being a heartfelt team member of the WCI & ODM staff
  • Show evidence of a daily walk with Christ
  • Show respect for the leadership and members of Westside Church Internacional and Open Door Fellowship
  • Cover those in your area of leadership with prayer
  • Possess the five “C’s” within the WCI/ODM context: Character, Chemistry, Competence, Calling and Culture
  • Agree with the WCI and ODM statement of faith and demonstrate a passion for our values and vision

 Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Work environment is both indoor and outdoor. Outdoor activities can be in extreme weather conditions such as rain, snow or high temperatures
  • This job involves sitting, standing, walking, and running
  • This job regularly involves moving up to 25 pounds
