General Statement of Job Function
The PhD Recruiter and Retention Specialist functions as the primary contact for prospective students interested in Denver Seminary’s PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision. In this student-facing role, the PhD Recruiter and Retention Specialist communicates Denver Seminary’s strengths, commitments, curriculum, and enhance enrollment efforts, meet admissions goals, transition students to successful study in their program, and meet retention goals. A successful recruiter and retention specialist is highly personable, hospitable, and organized, with a passion for Denver Seminary and the ability to anticipate student needs as they walk alongside students through the application, financial aid, registration, payment, and program processes. The PhD Recruiter and Retention Specialist meets with students regularly while managing their admissions timeline and throughout the course of their program. This position also includes recruitment efforts designed to inform and attract potential PhD inquiries and applicants.
Example of Duties
- Build and maintain meaningful relationships with prospective students that ultimately encourages them to begin the PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision.
- Consistently collaborate with the Assistant Director and Student Services Coordinator on program training and updates, the admissions process, and funnel data.
- Speak knowledgeably about Denver Seminary’s culture and educational environment to a wide, yet targeted audience to increase prospective student pool and applicant yield.
- Meet with students in person and virtually to discuss the structure of Denver Seminary’s PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision, answer questions about the curriculum and admissions process, and help students navigate their program decision-making process.
- Proactively guide students through the logistics of choosing and starting a PhD program, including the admissions application, application review process, registration, financial aid, making payments, and starting in classes.
- Maintain communication with every part of the counselor caseload each month through strategic calls and emails, proactive acceptance follow up, and providing reminders about deadlines.
- Manage each prospective student lead in Slate, including the compilation and initial review of all completed applications, the logging of all interactions, and acceptance follow up.
- Participation in recruitment calling and events that develop prospects into applicants and cultivate with relationships in Denver Seminary’s network of alumni.
- Travel to conferences to present the program to prospective students.
- Provides individualized outreach to current students based on identified risk factors including academic, financial, and socio-emotional; assisting them in developing individual plans for success.
- Refers and connects students with relevant Seminary resources; coordinates with Seminary stakeholders regarding outreach and support.
- Works with individual students to develop realistic goals that will contribute to academic and personal success in the PhD program; motivates students to achieve educational goals.
- Monitors and records progress of individual students, maintaining consistent and confidential records of student data.
- Maintains communication with faculty and staff in support of students.
Master’s degree preferred, bachelor’s degree required. Master’s in Counseling strongly preferred. Three years of experience with the counseling field and a general record of professional success; experience with CACREP programs strongly preferred. Experience with student enrollment or customer service software, marketing and sales. Commitment to discern and maintain confidentiality. Able to communicate effectively in both written and oral form. Excellent public speaking skills. Ability to give careful attention to detail. Computer competent; Microsoft Office experience essential. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, the intricacies of theological education, degree program requirements, competencies and training required for various ministries, federal/state policies and regulations related to student enrollment, special needs of groups such as international students and racial/ethnic minorities.

- A well-maintained and developed recruitment effort with increased yield throughout the admissions funnel.
- Recruit and enroll cohorts of 24 students per year
- Ensure representation at major venues to attract future students (print, presentation, other)
- Providing consistently good customer services to our internal and external constituencies
- Support student success, retention, and progression to graduation
Typical Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Normal office working conditions including computer usage may require occasional standing, walking, long periods of sitting, climb stairs, balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
