At Denver Seminary, innovation is not only about technology—it’s about equipping students and the broader Church with tools that amplify mission and deepen discipleship. As we expand our reach and deepen our commitment to excellence in theological education, we are pleased to announce that effective July 1, 2025, Dr. Sam Kurien will serve as our new Chief Information Officer and Vice President of Technology.

With this appointment, Sam will join the Seminary’s Executive Leadership Council, contributing strategic insight to the Seminary’s evolving vision focused on student learning and transformation in a digital age. Under Sam’s leadership, the new Office of Technology will function as both an operational and strategic partner—advancing academic innovation, data-informed decision making, and community engagement across every layer of Seminary life.

“Sam brings a remarkable blend of technical acumen, theological insight, and servant leadership to our community,” Denver Seminary President Mark Husbands said. “His expertise in enterprise IT strategy and data architecture is matched by his commitment to Christ-centered transformation. I am confident that under his leadership, our technology and educational platforms will serve our mission and vision with excellence.”

Sam adds: “Technology should not be an afterthought—it should be a missional asset. At Denver Seminary, we have an opportunity to harness digital tools to extend the reach of theological education, foster meaningful connection, and enable faithful, responsive leadership in a rapidly changing world.”

With more than 25 years of experience in enterprise technology leadership, Sam has transformed systems and structures to support institutional growth and mission alignment.

Before joining Denver Seminary, he served as the Global CIO of The Alliance, supporting operations in over 80 countries and 1,500 staff worldwide. There, he led mission-critical initiatives, including ERP and CRM implementations focused on Advancement and Financial applications. He also advanced cloud adoption, digital transformation, and cybersecurity maturity across the global organization. In addition to his executive leadership across for profits and non-profits, Sam has taught Information Systems and Statistics at Colorado Christian University, bringing academic insight to his practical, solutions-oriented approach.

Sam holds a PhD in Management Information Systems and has pursued post-doctoral research in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. He brings a rare ability to integrate cutting-edge technology with theological vision and pastoral sensitivity and is deeply invested in ministry and discipleship, embodying a model of leadership that is both mission-driven and people-focused.

As we pursue the bold vision of becoming the Seminary of the Future, Sam’s leadership will be instrumental in transforming how we teach, connect, and serve. His strategic direction will enable us to expand access to theological education through cutting-edge digital platforms, enhance institutional agility through data-informed decision making, and advance cybersecurity and digital stewardship as vital expressions of trust and integrity. By building systems that empower individuals and foster authentic community, Sam will help ensure that our technology infrastructure remains fully aligned with Kingdom values and our long-term mission—positioning Denver Seminary at the forefront of innovation in theological education.

Please join us in celebrating Dr. Sam Kurien’s appointment and this exciting new chapter in Denver Seminary’s journey of transformation and impact.
