Location: Essential On-Campus
Pay: $66,000 – $84,000. Actual compensation offer to candidate will be based upon prior experience, skill level, tenure track status, and budget.

General Statement of Job Function

The faculty member is responsible for teaching and administration duties as agreed upon in the annual teaching agreement. A standard full-time teaching load is 18 credit hours per academic year for tenure track or 24 hours for non-tenure track. Faculty plan and teach course content, meet with and advise students. Faculty contribute to their academic discipline by writing and speaking in academic, professional, and ministry settings, and representing the seminary in various public settings. Faculty serve on at least one standing faculty committee per year and offer additional support to their division and other seminary projects as assigned by the Academic Dean. Faculty attend all functions requiring faculty participation. Faculty help advance Denver Seminary’s globalization initiatives to equip students to work in diverse populations and multicultural settings.

Essential Functions

  • Teaching priority will be in the areas of Preaching/Homiletics and Pastoral Ministry
  • Prepare and submit course syllabi by posted deadlines, using the centralized syllabus updating and submission process and the most current, approved syllabus template.
  • Prepare and deliver teaching content, educational materials, and examinations for class sessions. Be familiar with and adept at different teaching modalities: in person, Zoom, and asynchronous online.  Overall teaching load may include a combination of these modalities as well as course creation in residential, Zoom-based, and fully asynchronous modalities. 
  • Participate with other members of the Christian Thought and Ministry division in its roles and responsibilities within the Seminary. These include both divisional and departmental meetings, projects, planning, supervision of MA theses, grading comprehensive exams, etc.
  • Communicate with students who need assistance with assigned courses and be available six hours per week for student questions and concerns.
  • Grade all assignments and submit final course grades to Registrar by posted deadlines.
  • Encourage student course evaluations, following instructions provided.
  • Advise students in academic matters or refer questions to SLEM, the Registrar, or other appropriate department.
  • Serve on one standing faculty committee as assigned by the Academic Dean.
  • Write, travel, and speak in academic and ministry settings as part of discipline-specific scholarship for the Academy and the Church.
  • Attend and contribute to professional societies.
  • Participate in Convocation, Commencement, monthly faculty meetings and forums, and other responsibilities and duties expected of all faculty members of Denver Seminary and as outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Academic Dean

Education/Training

  • PhD or DMin required
  • Formal theological training at the Masters level

Qualifications

  • Committed personal relationship with Jesus Christ required and a lifestyle consistent with the Seminary’s Community Values and Behavioral Commitments
  • Agreement with Denver Seminary’s full statement of faith and annual, public signing of that Statement
  • Agreement to teach in accordance with Denver Seminary’s Statement on Human Sexuality
  • Agreement to abide by all policies set forth in the Faculty Handbook, as well as all other Seminary policies and procedures
  • A record of publications with the promise of ongoing scholarly productivity
  • Evidence of participation in the scholarly guild (academic meetings)
  • Cross-cultural experience is desirable.

  • Meeting ATS and HLC standards for required course readings, seat time, and all other class requirements for residential, on-line or modified courses.

Typical Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Normal office working conditions including computer usage may require occasional standing, walking, long periods of sitting, climb stairs, balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
