Youth Mental Health: Treating Trauma
Special Guest
Amy M. Craig, MA, LPC, EMDR Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified EMDR Therapist specializing in trauma recovery, play therapy, CBT, and family support

The session will seek to deepen understanding of trauma-focused therapy in youth mental health. First, the session will highlight the importance of creating safe, supportive spaces for children to openly express emotions connected to their experiences of trauma. It will introduce the “window of tolerance” as a guiding framework for recognizing levels of emotional regulation and dysregulation, offering clinicians and caregivers a practical tool for intervention.
Second, the session will review and demonstrate coping strategies and relaxation techniques that strengthen children’s ability to manage stress, regulate emotions, and foster resilience. Attendees will then examine evidence-based modalities for trauma processing, including TF-CBT, narrative therapy, play therapy, and EMDR, with discussion of their clinical applications and effectiveness in supporting recovery.
The session will also explore the critical role of parent coaching, emphasizing strategies to help caregivers support children in remaining within their window of tolerance, respond effectively when children move outside of it, and model coping skills in the home.
Finally, the session will conclude with a Q&A session.
