Debra Anderson, MA

Associate Professor of Training and Mentoring, Chair of the Training and Mentoring Department

Debra Anderson has served students in the Training and Mentoring curriculum since 2013. She earned her BA in creative writing from California State University, Long Beach (1994) where she minored in religious studies. She earned her MA in Christian education from Gateway Seminary (2001) while serving part-time as Minister of Maturity in her local church. She has discipled and challenged the people of God in a variety of settings: campus ministry, church-based adult education, homeschool cohorts, church planting, conference workshops, guest preaching and higher education.

Currently, Professor Anderson draws from her thirty years of ministry experience both in and outside the church to equip seminary students to understand and intentionally pursue character formation and professional skill development. She offers expertise in adult learning, focusing her research on how the practice of reflection helps us to learn, change, and build a new story.

Debra also provides clients with theological research, sermon series coaching, and long-form content editing and ghostwriting. She is published under her own name in the Clio’s Psyche Journal and Denver Seminary’s Engage Magazine. Debra’s husband is a local pastor and they enjoy life with their three teen/young adult sons. She enjoys a good podcast, summer road trips, hiking, and the symphony.
