Advancement Work Study

General Statement of Job Function

The Advancement Work Study plays a vital role in providing administrative assistance to the Advancement department, promoting efficiency and support. Reporting directly to the Advancement Projects and Events Associate, the work study is involved in various projects, including event planning and execution, direct mailings, minimal communication with alumni and donors, data entry, as well as handling other administrative tasks related to organization and communications.

Essential Functions

  • Performs general office work in a variety of areas for the Advancement Projects and Events Associate and Advancement Department: event registration and preparation, event execution, contact golf tournament sponsors to help secure raffle prizes, organize various mailing projects, donor research, edit and proofread emails/letters, organize and file documents, donor web research, and administrative assistance with other special projects.
  • Assists in building relationships alongside the Advancement team: connect with alumni and donors over the phone and at Advancement events, recruit student volunteers for events, donor thank-you notes, assist with donor thank you calls, coordinate inquiries and problem-solving within the Seminary, and support with other department needs.

Education/Training

  • Administrative experience required
  • Interpersonal skills required
  • Proofreading abilities (spelling, style, and grammar) required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint required
  • The ability to learn and work effectively in a database required
  • Skills and commitment to discern and maintain confidentiality when needed
  • Knowledge of office protocol and basic administrative procedures
  • Administrative skills, such as accurate typing/transcription, filing
  • Exposure to fundraising principles and practices in church, higher education, or nonprofit settings preferred

Typical Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Requires sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time and frequent bending, stooping or stretching. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Work is performed in an office environment and requires working at a computer for extended periods of time; eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, the ability to distinguish letters and symbols, corrected vision and hearing within normal range.  Requires speaking and writing proficiently in the English language. Requires the use of office equipment such as computers, printers, telephones, copiers and fax machines.
