Littleton, Colo. – Explore Racial Injustice “Under the Law”: Confronting the underpinnings of racial profiling and high incarceration rates among people of color, on Thur., Mar. 25, 11 a.m. -12:15 p.m. MST, during an Issues Forum, hosted by The Gospel Initiative, a work of Denver Seminary. Learn more and register at DenverSeminary.edu/TGI.

This conversation is the first of a three-part series designed to consider how churches can engage racism for the sake of the gospel.

“It’s important that the voice of the Church is included in challenging conversations,” said Dr. Mark Harden, executive director of The Gospel Initiative. “Our Issues Forums assist in guiding these conversations and help us to examine what we as Christians can and should be doing to ensure that a gospel presence is part of the conversations.”

Among the themes panelists will explore are the consequences of failing to address the issues of racial profiling and high incarceration rates among people of color, and what role churches can have in addressing these challenges.

Panelists for the Issues Forum webinar are:

Lewis Brown, AVP of talent development for Zurich Insurance and president of Group Vigilant, Denver, Colo.
Brown is a widely recognized speaker and panelist on topics related to community development, the justice system, mass incarceration, race relations, organizational development, positive youth development, and more.

Rev. Craig Dunn, senior pastor, First Baptist Church of Madison, Madison, NJ
Dunn has coordinated “Beloved Community Conversations,” an effort to unite the people of Madison and surrounding towns. He is a chaplain to three local police departments and is the past chair of the board of directors of the Montclair Neighborhood Development Corporation, an organization that works to empower and support disadvantaged individuals, youth, and families to achieve an improved quality of life through training, education, and advocacy.

Rev. Dana Gonsal, senior pastor, First Baptist Church of Dorchester, Dorchester, Mass.
At age 23, Rev. Gonsal founded The Classic ShoeShine Corporation, while homeless. He continues to hold the position of president/CEO. Today, Classic ShoeShine has expanded throughout New England, including Logan International Airport in Boston and the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

Harden will moderate the discussion.

These non-denominational, non-partisan, cross-generational forums are a space for church leaders, ministry practitioners, and lay leaders to engage in robust conversations, consider credible and thoughtful resources, and learn from issues experts. Participants are empowered to consider approaches the Church may take to address critical issues and consider the consequences of inaction.
