    Denver Seminary is pleased to announce the appointment of two distinguished leaders in counselor education: Dr. Elisabeth Suárez, who joins as Director of the PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision Program and Professor of Counseling, and Dr. Vanessa Snyder, who has been named Associate Professor of Counseling.

Esteemed Korean Theologian and Church Leader, Dr. Jung-Hyun Oh, Receives Honorary Doctorate from Denver Seminary

Denver Seminary President Dr. Mark Young conducts the official hooding of Rev. Dr. Jung-Hyun Oh who received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Denver Seminary at the school’s Commencement ceremony in May.  

Littleton, Colo. – Denver Seminary awarded Rev. Dr. Jung-Hyun Oh an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree during its 2024 Commencement service in May.

Dr. Oh, a distinguished leader in the global Christian community, serves as the Senior Pastor of Sarang Church in Seoul, South Korea, a congregation recognized for its extraordinary membership exceeding 100,000 and weekly attendance of 30,000 to 35,000. He is also the Chair of the Board of Trustees at Soongsil University and the President of Sarang Global Academy.

Dr. Oh holds a PhD from Potchefstroom University, a ThM from Calvin Theological Seminary, and both a DMin and MDiv from Talbot School of Theology. Additionally, he has been a resident fellow at Harvard University.

“Dr. Oh’s contributions to the global Christian community and his support for our mission have been invaluable,” said Dr. Sung Wook Chung, professor of Christian Theology and director of the Asian Initiative. “We are honored to recognize his outstanding work and lasting impact on both our institution and the broader theological landscape.”

As an author, Dr. Oh has contributed extensively to theological literature, addressing issues relevant to evangelical and missional Christianity. His work extends internationally, promoting discipleship training in diverse contexts including Brazil, Ethiopia, and various Southeast Asian countries. His leadership and commitment to preparing the next generation of leaders are evident in his encouragement of church members and associate pastors to pursue advanced degrees through Denver Seminary’s Korean Global Campus.

Dr. Oh not only received an honorary doctorate but also delivered the commencement address titled “Dream of the Least.” In his inspiring speech, he emphasized that everyone has the potential to make a significant impact. He shared insights into the growth of the Church in Korea and highlighted his and others’ ongoing and persistent efforts to bring more people to Christ.

Dr. Oh’s relationship with Denver Seminary has been marked by a mutual commitment to theological excellence and spiritual growth. His involvement has enriched the Seminary’s programs and broadened its international outreach. Denver Seminary recognizes Dr. Oh’s exceptional dedication to ministry and his influential role in advancing Christian education. His leadership and commitment to faith embody the values that Denver Seminary upholds.
