Student Spotlight | Peter Dusabe: On Mission for Uganda’s Youth
Time is a precious commodity for Peter Dusabe. Even by today’s fast-paced standards, his schedule is packed. In addition to leading a local ministry in his home country of Uganda, he spends weeks on safari as a translator for German tourists. On top of all this, Peter is also a global student pursuing a Master of Divinity (MDIV) degree at Denver Seminary.
Though grateful for these distinct responsibilities that allow him to live out his unique mission in various areas of life, managing many priorities, including his seminary work, has been challenging.
“I never imagined I would be an online student,” Peter said. “It’s been quite challenging because I have to balance so many different aspects of my life.”
“I have to balance those multi-week safari trips alongside my school and ministry work,” he added.
Despite the need for constant multitasking and careful time management, Peter is grateful for the understanding and flexibility he receives from his Seminary instructors while attending classes remotely. This is especially challenging in Uganda, where many regions still lack reliable internet access.
“I have been blessed with incredible instructors at Denver Seminary,” Peter said. “They’ve been gracious, especially considering the challenges of being an online student. With only 20 percent of Uganda having internet access, my instructors have been very accommodating, allowing me the extra time I need to submit my assignments.”
When he’s not reading, working on assignments, or serving as a translator for tourists exploring the rich beauty of East Africa, Peter dedicates his time to investing in the youth of Uganda.
In 2006, during an overnight prayer service, Peter felt God calling him to preach the gospel to his country’s youth when he heard the words, “build me a generation that honors me.” Six years later, in 2012, he founded the Pacesetters’ Initiative for Africa, an outreach and evangelistic ministry dedicated to reaching young people in schools and universities across Uganda with the life-transforming message of Christ. His vision is to see a generation of mission-minded youth and children in Africa transforming communities through evangelism and discipleship.
“We are committed to bringing the gospel of Jesus Christ to our nation’s youth,” Peter shared. “In Uganda, 80 percent of the population is under the age of thirty, making us one of the youngest populations in the world.”
“This is an incredible opportunity to shape the future of our nation and bring salvation to our youth,” he added.
The MDiv program at Denver Seminary offers a foundation in biblical and theological studies, along with practical skills to prepare students for faithful and effective ministry. Now, twelve years after founding Pacesetters’ Initiative, Peter’s ministry continues to thrive, in part because he consistently applies lessons from his rigorous coursework—including biblical studies, Christian thought, ministry leadership, mentor formation, and biblical languages—to his ongoing ministry efforts.

Peter is especially grateful for the online learning format and the gracious accommodations from his instructors, which have enabled him to pursue his education, develop his teaching skills, and grow in confidence while balancing his work and ministry commitments.
“I’ve enjoyed my interactions with instructors and fellow students who have both challenged and encouraged me in my work,” he shared. “I feel more confident in my teaching and preaching because of the growth I’ve experienced at Denver Seminary.”
