Join Denver Seminary’s Urban Initiative to recognize the profound contributions of influential Black voices and to celebrate Black History Month, with Dr. Ralph Douglas West, Feb. 21, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Denver Seminary and via livestream. Register for this free event.

West began preaching when he was 16 years old. Today, he is widely recognized for his signature ability to tell detailed, credible, and indelible stories from contemporary life that enrich the sermon and relates to the congregation.

“It’s always an honor to be in the room when Dr. West is preaching,” said Rev. John Moreland, director of Denver Seminary’s Urban Initiative. “He brings unmatched energy and passion for the gospel to his sermons, and his preaching is always relevant and applicable to our daily lives.”

West is the founder and senior pastor of The Church without Walls. The Church without Walls began with 32 members and now embraces more than 24,000 individuals and families. Through radio, television, online, and publications, West’s messages are available across the world.

In addition, the event will honor the life of Dr. Felix Gilbert. Prior to his death in 2021, Gilbert started the Black Student Endowed Scholarship, in an effort to equip the Black community to share the good news of the gospel. Renamed the Dr. Felix Gilbert Black Student Endowed Scholarship after his death, the scholarship continues to ensure seminary education is affordable for members of the Black community.

“Preacher, worship leader, pastor, professor, encourager, mentor, and friend, Dr. Gilbert enriched our lives and changed Denver Seminary in profound and beautiful ways,” said Dr. Mark Young, Seminary president.

This Black History Month celebration is open to the public. Registration is encouraged but not required and there is no charge to attend. Denver Seminary is located at 6399 S. Santa Fe Dr., Littleton, Colo., 80120. More information can be found at DenverSeminary.edu/DrWest or by contacting Andrea Weyand, senior director of Communications.
