FAQs About the MDiv Online Degree Program
An MDiv is for ministers or priests, while a master’s in theology is for non-ministry careers. MDiv programs include courses on leadership, administration, and public speaking in addition to theology. A Master of Arts in theology can lead to jobs in pastoral counseling or academia.
Completion of either degree can lead to a doctoral program. MDiv graduates can pursue a Doctor of Ministry (DMin), while theology graduates can pursue a Doctor of Theology (ThD). Obtaining a DMin can help clergy advance to higher leadership roles, and a ThD may be required for a tenure-track professorship.
In addition to elective courses, online courses include theological studies, church history, and the study of Greek and Hebrew languages. For a full list of courses and concentrations, review our Degree Worksheet page.
There are many factors to consider when choosing any degree. Consider your long-term ministry goals as well as the options for study.
